Disappointing Products

10:00

Hey everyone!

It's been quite a while since I've done any kind of post like this. Maybe I just haven't disliked any products for a long time, or at least not enough to do a post about them.

Just lately I've found a few products that I wish would work better for me, hoped would do much more than they do or just products I mispurchased thinking it would be amazing, but just didn't really wow me as such.

Just for the record: most of these products I don't absolutely hate, just had higher hopes for, and I especially don't want to hate on the brands mentioned below. I actually love a lot of products from these brands but for some reason, these products specifically didn't do the job for me, or performed different than I had hoped.

Also: if a product doesn't work for me, doesn't mean it won't work for you. Don't feel attacked if you love a product that's in here, because YAY you have found a product that you love! We all have different faces, features, skins, preferences and opinions, and that's totally okay.

Alright, disclaimers done, here we go.

Ouai Dry Shampoo (mini)

I'll get the hair product out of the way first, before moving onto makeup.

I picked up this travel-sized dry shampoo whilst ordering some other bits from Ouai, as I had never tried any of their products until then. I love the other ones I have around, but this one particular is just a bit weird. Don't get me wrong, it really makes my hair look fresh and voluminous. It's just the feeling that it leaves, that turns me off from buying (or using) it again. Think about the feeling when you put hairspray in your hair, but you spray it in your roots, on your lengths, and basically everywhere: it will make it feel stiff, crunchy and just not smooth and soft. Such a shame, because it really does make it look good. I just hate the feeling! If you are more into volumising dry shampoos, this one might work, but just use a small amount. I went spray-crazy because my hair is really greasy sometimes, so it was just not a great feeling. I think there are much better dry shampoos that do the job of making it look like I've just washed it, but without leaving the crunchy feeling.

Zoeva Graphic Brow Fix brow gel - Ammos

I think this gel looks quite alright when I use it for a natural makeup day, or even overtop of a pencil, but I think the main focus of a brow gel should always be to set them in place. This however, does not do that for me. It gives off a great amount of colour, and that's awesome. The brush is really skinny, yet a bit longer than most brow gels do and it dispenses really evenly. But when it's called "brow fix" you think it would actually fix your brows. Too bad, as this could have been such a great product.

Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara

I feel like this mascara is so overhyped! When they were launching it, creating all the fuss about it and made everyone think something really unique was about to happen, I honestly thought they would come with the most revolutionary collection of products, so I was already quite disappointed when it turned out to be just one mascara. Still, I heard people rave about it and thought I would try it myself. For some reason though I can't really get on with it, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, as so many people apply this product and it makes their lashes look amazing. For me, it just clumps them together and it looks like a right mess. Maybe it's just my lashes playing up, but honestly, this just doesn't work for me at all. I try to use it sometimes, just on the very tips of my lashes, in combination with another, more separating mascara. But still, it's just such a faff to make it work, and I'd rather use a mascara that does all of that in one go.

Maybelline Total Temptation

I slightly prefer this one to the Bad Gal Bang, but still, it's just not my favourite. It does a better job at separating, but still manages to clump my lashes together if I'm not being extra careful. I can't really load up the product as that's what will make them cling together. I'm not a massive fan of the plastic spike applicator either. I way prefer the bristly ones. Shame, as this must be the first Maybelline mascara I'm not in love with. I do think a lot of people really like this one, but apparently it's just not my cup of tea.

Mac x Nicopanda Gleamer Face Powder

The fact I'm not convinced on this product is totally my own fault. It was such an impulse buy, as I saw the collection on the website, thought it looked really gimmicky, then saw this powder thinking "wow that would make a great blush", then realised after placing the order that it wasn't actually a blush. It's just a soft-glowing face powder (think of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, not really a highlighter but not really an all-over-face powder either). I've been using it though and I want to try and make it work, but I should have tried to pick it up in store so I could at least swatch it before buying. Then I would have seen that this is more of a subtle-highlight with a pink undertone and I wouldn't have bought it at all. Oh well, it's in my collection now, I might as well use it.

Benefit Dandelion Twinkle (mini)

So I keep this one in a Z-palette, as it came in a set over christmas and it was glued to the cardboard packaging (whilst the other ones could be taken out, so silly). I had high hopes for this highlighter and I swatched it a couple of times in store, but I soon realised this formula is different to the actual full-size product. I think the big ones are a bakes formula, but this particular one doesn't look or feel that way. It has a beige undertone, which makes it look weird when I apply it. It's not very sparkly at all, but it just looks like I've put powder on top of my cheeks that's slightly too dark for my skin! I'm not sure if I should go and pick up the full size, because I've only swatched that one, but thought I would have a better experience with this one, to be fair. I feel like I still haven't really been able to try the actual product. Why would the do that, though? I would have paid £5 extra for a decent powder that could be taken out of the packaging without trouble, so that I could have tried the actual Dandelion Twinkle highlighter.

What are some of the products you had a similar experience with? Do you have anything that's hyped up on the internet, and you had high hopes for, but just didn't live up to the expectations? Let me know in the comments below!
